The Lotteries and Gaming Authority of Malta (LGA) has agreed to trust the casino reviews and approval of independent industry standards organisation, eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA). The two bodies have agreed to work together to initiate and enforce player protection measures.

The LGA has agreed that casino reviews conducted by the eCOGRA organisation are of a high enough standard that any operator using eCOGRA-approved software and that has undergone eCOGRA’s principles and testing methodology casino reviews will not be required to undergo further trials and testing in order to win an online gaming license in Malta.

After conducting extensive casino reviews, eCOGRA awards online casinos, poker rooms, internet sportsbooks and other gambling websites with a “Play it Safe” seal of approval, which operators will then display on their webpages.

Of course the LGA will continue to conduct investigations into all applicants for the online gaming licenses; however casino reviews will be done more thoroughly on operators who have not received the eCOGRA approval. The LGA will also continue to investigate other appropriate areas of player protection and responsible and safe operator guidelines.

The LGA came to the agreement after full investigations to find the optimum systems for casino reviews and testing. The agreement could potentially apply to the full range of internet casinos and poker rooms, which accounts for a significant percentage of the available business.

Malta, a full member of the European Union now counts 71 licensed online gambling operators, while eCOGRA’s casino reviews have given approval to 76 internet gambling sites to carry the “play it safe” seal.

The LGA and eCOGRA will also cooperate further on the issue of player disputes, working to ensure that these are heard and dealt with fairly, independently and within reasonable time. eCOGRA provides operators with a dedicated dispute mediation service in cooperation with it’s Fair Gaming Advocate, while LGA keeps its own disputes officer, also in charge of operator compliance.

Chief executive responsible for Malta online gaming licensing, Mario Galeo, was reported to have said that he is happy that the agreement with eCOGRA was reached and that he is looking forward to strong co operations and communication between the two bodies with the purpose of creating improved online gambling conditions in the future.

Andrew Beveridge, CEO of eCOGRA said that he was extremely pleased that the LGA has approved the organisation’s casino reviews and testing procedures introduced by eCOGRA to set operating standards for the casino reviews and “play it safe” seals of approval.

Beveridge went on to confirm that eCOGRA is keen to cooperate with any government or licensing body to conduct casino reviews and work towards a consistent global regulation regarding to casino reviews and the online gambling industry.

Another local jurisdiction to sign cooperation agreements with eCOGRA on the issue of casino reviews and licensing is the Canadian licensing jurisdiction in Kahnawake.
